Dr. Akihiko Yokoyama received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 1984 and began teaching power system engineering at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, University of Tokyo the same year. From 1987 to 1989, he served as a visiting researcher at the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of California, Berkeley. Although he retired from the University of Tokyo in March 2022, he continues to contribute to academia as Professor Emeritus. He had also served as Chairman of the Japanese National Committees for IEC TC8 and TC123. Since 2021, he has been Chair of the Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission (EGC), where he has worked on designing incentive regulation systems to promote investment in power infrastructure.
