Director General of ANEEL (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica, Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency)
Sandoval Feitosa has been Director General of ANEEL (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica, Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency) since August 2022. He is a career civil servant, having joined ANEEL through a competitive public examination as a Regulation Specialist in 2005. For nine years, he worked in the Agency’s inspection department, conducting technical audits of electricity distribution and transmission concessionaires.
In 2014, he was appointed Adviser to ANEEL’s Board of Directors, and in May 2015, he was appointed Superintendent of Transmission Services Regulation. Subsequently, in 2017, he returned to the Superintendence of Electricity Services Inspection as Superintendent. He was appointed Director of ANEEL in May 2018, completing his term in March 2022.
He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA) (2002), a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Brasília (UnB) (2009), an MBA in Business Management with a focus on Strategy from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) (2017), and completed the Program on Utility Regulation and Strategy at the Warrington College of Business, University of Florida.
Before joining ANEEL, he worked in electricity distribution and transmission companies. Between 2018 and 2020, he also served as Director of the Brazilian Association of Regulatory Agencies (ABAR – Associação Brasileira de Agências de Regulação), advocating for regulatory practices at federal, state and municipal levels.
He has a strong interest in discussions on the modernization of Brazil’s electricity sector, the energy transition, distributed energy resources, and the analysis of the socio-environmental impacts of electricity in improving people’s lives.
