CEO and Founder

Carol Ofafa is an award-winning electrical and electronics engineer and a leading expert in energy regulation, gender-responsive policy, and sustainable development in Africa.

At the African School of Regulation (ASR), Carol leads projects on energy regulatory policy, energy economic planning, and capacity-building initiatives designed to strengthen the next generation of African energy professionals. She designed and spearheaded the African Women in Energy Regulation - Leadership Programme (AWER-LP), a flagship initiative that has trained women energy professionals across 20 African countries across two cohorts, selected from over 1,000 applicants. The programme combines advanced technical training in energy regulation with dedicated leadership and personal development, equipping women to lead from within the institutions that shape Africa's energy future. The AWER-LP has been recognised internationally as a model for gender-transformative capacity building in the energy sector.

Carol's commitment to gender equality in energy is both personal and professional. With nearly a decade at the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), she earned a Head of State Commendation (HSC) for technical excellence and for her sustained mentorship of women in the energy sector - one of Kenya's highest professional recognitions. She has consistently worked at the intersection of technical leadership and gender advocacy, demonstrating that the two are inseparable in building an African energy transition that is genuinely inclusive.

Her innovation and impact have been celebrated globally. She was a finalist of the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2025, awarded by the Royal Academy of Engineering. She was nominated as one of Sustainable Energy for All's (SEforALL) Energy Heroes 2025, and was most recently honoured among Kenya's Top 40 Under 40 Women - cementing her place as one of Africa's leading changemakers in the energy transition.

As CEO and Founder of E-Safiri Charging Limited, Carol channels her engineering expertise, regulatory knowledge, and commitment to inclusion into building practical clean energy solutions for communities that the mainstream economy has overlooked. E-Safiri deploys solar-powered battery-swap charging hubs and lease-to-own electric motorcycles for rural and peri-urban communities in western Kenya, combining clean mobility with productive energy services - solar ice-making and cold storage - for fishing and farming households. Under her leadership, 67% of decision-making and technical roles at E-Safiri are held by women. The company has been nominated for the EarthShot Prize and recognised as one of the companies to watch in 2024.

Carol holds a First-Class Honours degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Nairobi and an MSc. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering with Management, with Leadership Recognition, from the University of Glasgow.

A fierce advocate for gender equality and social inclusion, Carol's work embodies transformative leadership at the nexus of energy, innovation, and social equity - proving that building a just energy transition and building a successful business are not competing goals, but the same one.
