Enrique Monasterio is a Commissioner at the Board of the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), where he also serves as a member of the Regulatory Supervision Chamber (Sala de Supervisión Regulatoria). He was appointed to this position in January 2025. He has recently been appointed to Vice-Chairman of Ibero-American Association of Energy Regulators (ARIAE) (May 2026).

Prior to his role at the CNMC, Mr. Monasterio built an extensive career in the energy sector. He previously served as the Director of Development and Innovation at the Basque Energy Board (Ente Vasco de la Energía - EVE), an organization where he held various leadership positions since 1992. His professional background is deeply rooted in energy policy, innovation, and international project management.

Between 2010 and 2017, he was CEO of IBIL, a company (participated by EVE and REPSOL) providing electric vehicle charging services, as well as of its electric car-sharing subsidiary, IBILEK.

Throughout his professional career, he has been a member of the Boards of Directors of several energy-sector companies, notably Bahía de Bizkaia Gas (LNG regasification terminal) and Bahía de Bizkaia Electricidad (combined-cycle power plant).

Mr. Monasterio holds an Industrial Engineering degree, specializing in energy techniques, from the School of Engineering of Bilbao, where he also completed his doctoral studies in Thermal Engineering. Additionally, he holds a Master’s degree in Automotive Project Leadership from the AIC (Automotive Intelligence Center).
